Volume 23, issue 45 of NOVA for the year 2025 marks an extraordinary milestone in the history of our scientific publication. We are very proud to announce that NOVA magazine has been officially indexed in EMBASE (Elsevier), one of the most prestigious and selective biomedical databases in the world. This exceptional achievement places NOVA among the select group of less than 15% of scientific journals that gain access to the most demanding platforms in the international scientific field.
Recognition of Scientific Excellence
Indexing in EMBASE constitutes a rigorous validation of the scientific, methodological, and editorial quality that has characterized NOVA since its creation. EMBASE, owned by Elsevier, has more than 28 million references from more than 8,400 journals indexed since 1947, and its selection process meticulously evaluates aspects such as peer review, the geographical diversity of editors and authors, the clarity of abstracts, and the availability of clear ethical policies.
Greater International Visibility: Articles published in NOVA are now available to researchers and health professionals in more than 90 countries, exponentially multiplying their potential impact. EMBASE provides unparalleled coverage of the medical literature, including information not available in MEDLINE, ensuring wider and more diverse dissemination.
Access to Global Collaboration Networks: Indexing facilitates connection with researchers around the world, promoting international collaborations and knowledge exchange between institutions on different continents.
Impact on Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses: EMBASE is particularly valued for accessing higher levels of scientific evidence in systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
NOVA articles will now be considered primary sources in these high-impact studies, contributing directly to the development of evidence-based health policies.
Commitment to Open Science
NOVA remains committed to the open access model, ensuring that its content is free and available to the entire scientific community and the interested general public. This editorial philosophy is perfectly aligned with global trends toward the democratization of scientific knowledge and the elimination of economic barriers to access to quality scientific information.
Future Prospects
Indexing in EMBASE marks the beginning of a new stage for NOVA, characterized by even more demanding standards of editorial quality and scientific rigor. This recognition commits us to maintaining and continuously raising our standards, attracting contributions from high-level authors who will see NOVA as an ideal space to disseminate their findings.
The expected increase in citations and academic impact, thanks to greater international dissemination, will position NOVA as a must-read journal in Latin American biomedical sciences. This growth in visibility and impact will directly benefit our authors, whose work will now have visibility in high-impact international settings.
Acknowledgments
This extraordinary achievement has been made possible thanks to the tireless work of our editorial team, reviewers, authors, and the institutions that have consistently supported NOVA. The dedication and commitment to scientific excellence of all those involved have made this institutional dream a reality.
With this indexing, NOVA transcends borders: the science we produce in Colombia is now read around the world. We invite the entire scientific community to celebrate this achievement and to contribute with research of the highest quality that maintains and elevates the international prestige achieved by our journal.
