Author Contribution Statement

NOVA Journal adopts the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT - Contributor Roles Taxonomy) to transparently describe the individual contributions of each author to published research work. This practice, endorsed by organizations such as COPE, ORCID and widely implemented by publishers such as Elsevier, PLoS and SciELO, enables fair and precise attribution of scientific work.

Autorship Criteria

To be listed as an author of an article in NOVA Journal, an individual must fulfill the following three criteria established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE):

  1. Have participated substantially in the conception and design of the study, or in data acquisition, or in the analysis and interpretation of data

  2. Have participated in the drafting of the manuscript or in its critical revision with important intellectual contributions

  3. Have approved the final version to be published

Those who do not meet these three criteria may only be acknowledged in the acknowledgments section.

CRediT Taxonomy- Contribution Roles

ConceptualizationIdeas; formulation or evolution of overarching research goals and aims.

Methodology:  Development or design of methodology; creation of models.

Software:  Programming, software development; computer programs design; implementation of computer code and supporting algorithms; testing of existing code components.

Validation:  Verification, whether as a part of the activity or separate, of the overall replication/reproducibility of results/experiments and other research outputs.

Formal analysisApplication of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other formal techniques to analyze or synthesize study data.

Implementation Procedure

Authors must specify contributions during submission, with the corresponding author responsible for ensuring accuracy and consensus. Declarations are published at the end of the article before references, following the format adopted by SciELO since 2021.

Errata and Retraction Policy

COPE Regulatory Framework

The policy strictly follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), clearly distinguishing between errata, corrections and retractions according to the severity of the problem.

Errata

For minor errors that do not compromise scientific validity:

  • Immediate correction of the digital version

  • Publication of erratum notice with its own DOI

  • Explanatory note linked to the original article

Retractions

For serious problems that compromise integrity:

  • Reasons include: fraud, plagiarism, data manipulation, undeclared conflicts

  • Transparent process: investigation, notification to authors, editorial decision

  • Public notice: with specific reasons and retraction date

Plagiarism Detection

Policy whit iThenticate

The implementation of iThenticate positions NOVA at the level of the best international journals, using the same tool employed by more than 1,500 academic publishers worldwide.

Estabilished Tolerance Thresholds

  • 0-15% similarity: Acceptable with appropriate citations

  • 16-25% similarity: Detailed review required

  • 26-40% similarity: Probable rejection

  • Over 40%: Automatic rejection for flagrant plagiarism
